aviary progress

Posted by naturefirstinc on December 19, 2011 at 7:55 PM Comments comments (0)

We are making more (although slow) progress on the aviary. We were finally able to locate tree branches large enough to use as natural perches which will be combined with perches made of other materials. By doing this, it will add interest and be healthier for the birds feet. We have solved our dilema of how & where to set up the feeding stations. The sink is ready for hook up, but the plumbing is only partially installed. We are still needing funds for toys, bowls and misc. items to complete the aviary. Please go to our donation page and give anything you can, even $2.00 can go a long way since we have our challenge going on until the end of December!

We send out a really big "THANK YOU" to all of you who have donated your time or money to help us, we are very grateful for your help!!!!

A Challenge!

Posted by naturefirstinc on December 12, 2011 at 1:20 PM Comments comments (0)

Nature First, Inc. has been offered a challenge by a couple of kind souls who prefer to remain anonymous. If we can get 200 new donors to give a mere $2.00 each before December 31st, they each will match dollar for dollar thereby tripling the amount!!!! This goal should be easy to obtain as ANYONE is able to make a $2.00 donation.

Because we understand that everyone is struggling these days including us, Nature First tries to find creative & affordable ways for everyone to help. Please help us meet this challenge by making a donation today, then encourage all of your family and friends to make one too! So far we have 19 new $2.00 donors!!!! we need more so we can meet the challenge!!!!!!!

Book Fair

It was a successful day for the book fair!!!  We collected a few donations in our jar and will know in a few weeks how much we will receive from Books A Million. It was pretty busy for a Wednesday! We send out a big THANK YOU to Books A Million and all of you who came by to see and meet us!! Unfortunately, it was a little too cool for the parrots, maybe next time some of them will be able to make it too!

By using and works with more than 3,000 top online retailers including Toys “R” Us, Target, Best Buy, Apple, Sephora, Macy’s, 1-800-Flowers, PetSmart, and Expedia among others. The shopping experience and prices are the same as going to the retailer directly, but each time you shop at one of these stores via GoodShop, a percentage of what you spend goes back to Nature First, Inc. And, equally as exciting, offers over 100,000 money saving coupons and free shipping offers. So, not only are you helping a good cause, but you are also saving money while doing so.

Similarly, with every search conducted on Yahoo!-powered, approximately one penny is donated to Nature First, Inc.. It’s used exactly like any other search engine and the pennies add up quickly.

Search engine advertisers and online shopping generate billions of dollars each year. Now, some of that money is going towards helping us buy food & toys and pay for medical expenses.

More than 100,000 nonprofits have partnered with GoodShop and GoodSearch and millions of people are using these sites to help their causes. GoodSearch and GoodShop have raised nearly $8 million -- helping make a real difference for the organizations they work with!

In Need

Posted by naturefirstinc on October 5, 2011 at 2:55 PM Comments comments (1)

We now have all the final inspections for the aviary. We have however, run into some unexpected additional expenses and now need to raise an additional $500.00 to get everything completed. We are asking everyone to please donate anything they can to help. $5.00 can add up quickly and all donations are tax deductible.

Our goal is to have all the parrots moved into the aviary by Oct. 25th. You can make the difference between moving them now or having to wait until Spring.

Thank you to all in advance!!!

Rooms almost complete

Posted by naturefirstinc on August 5, 2011 at 8:10 PM Comments comments (0)

there has been a lot of progress on the aviary this week, some shows in the photos and some does not. We had Dusty add flaps on the doors of each room to use as feeding doors. This way if we are not here and a volunteer is feeding and watering they will not have to walk into the rooms. This is for their protection as well as the bird's security and peace of mind.

There is only about 1 day's work left on the "rooms", next week we will begin work on the electrical and heat/ac. After the electrical inspection, we can install water, toys, perches and feeding stations. If all goes according to plan, we should be able to move our feathered family members into their new home by Labor Day weekend!!! keep your fingers crossed!!!

Today's Aviary Progress

very productive day! most of the "walls" are up. I tell our feathered family members that it will only be a few more weeks! They don't believe me, they've heard that so many times! We have had many set backs, but it seems things are finally running more smoothly. There has been so much going on here it's hard to keep up. We've been working diligently on trying to get donations to help pay for the finishing costs of this aviary and still looking. If any of you know anyone or a company or grant to help please let us know. You can e-mail [email protected]

Things are really beginning to take shape! the "walls" are going up now. We are using welded wire panels, they can't chew them, it's stronger than chain link and the small guys can't get through the openings. We didn't want to use regular walls, we wanted a less "closed in" feel to the place. I had been concerned about the flight doors, if any of the birds were sitting on top of them when we were opening or closing them, there would be a potential of them getting injured. Mike came up with the idea of using the panels on on top and angled so this can't happen. Dusty created the beams and together they have a sucessful solution. Using the wire overhead will make hanging swings and toys from the ceiling much easier as well.

Don't forget to go to our facebook page and "like" us!!!!! You can also follow us on twitter now, we're starting to get the "hang" of the social networks!  We are still taking donations to help with the completion of the aviary, if you would like to help just contact us!

New Aviary

Posted by naturefirstinc on July 24, 2011 at 1:25 PM Comments comments (0)

Well! after many years of working for it, the day is finally getting close!!!! We have a good start on the new aviary!!!!! Once it's complete all of our feathered family members will no longer live in cages. The building is all metal, insulated and will be climate controlled. They will have free flight inside and eventually outside as well. The room dividers are going up this week to keep the little ones separate from the larger parrots so no one gets hurt. The heat/ac unit has been installed on the building, but the electricity is not in yet. Hopefully that will come in the next week or two. The next step will be getting water hooked up, we plan to have an area with a sink for washing bowls and for cleaning. Then we will add the perches, swings, toys and feed/water areas. Each room will have it's own entrance from the inside as well as outside.

Then will come moving day!!!! We are very excited by this, it means a much better life for all.

We are still in need of funds to complete this project. If you would like to help, please call     850-368-6685 or e-mail  [email protected]

Check back often in our photo gallery for updated pics!!!
